Immigration Oversight
Since coming into office, the Trump administration has completely decimated our immigration system. They have targeted immigrants of all legal statuses, arrested and detained U.S. citizens, deported immigrants to third countries, left those in detention in horrible conditions, eroded due process, and torn apart our communities.
As the majority party, Republicans have blocked us from holding oversight hearings on Trump’s immigration actions. As the Ranking Member of the Immigration Subcommittee, I started a series of Shadow Hearings called “Kidnapped and Disappeared” to highlight the cruelty and lawlessness of Trump’s attacks on immigrant communities. Dozens of Members of Congress, immigration experts, and individuals impacted by these policies have participated to share their experiences and expertise to hold this administration accountable.
I will continue to conduct shadow hearings to shine a light on the horrific actions from this administration, fulfill my Congressional duty of oversight at ICE facilities and detention centers, and introduce legislation that protects the dignity and safety of immigrants in this country.
