Jayapal Statement on Scott Pruitt’s Resignation

July 5, 2018
Press Release

SEATTLE – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement regarding the resignation of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt:

“Scott Pruitt is finally gone from the Environmental Protection Agency. That it took so long speaks volumes about the unacceptable tolerance for corruption and misconduct in the Trump administration. Months ago, I was one of the first members of Congress to call for his firing after reports emerged showing the naked misuse of taxpayer dollars for his personal benefit. Since then, Pruitt has been embroiled in scandal after scandal after scandal. What’s more, Pruitt was an anti-science climate change denier and did everything he could to roll back regulations at the behest of oil and coal lobbyists, all but ensuring harm to our air and waterways.

“President Trump’s attacks on our environment will no doubt continue, but Pruitt’s long overdue resignation shows the #BootPruitt campaign worked. It is a powerful reminder that no matter how unethical this administration may be, the future of our country and our planet rests on our willingness to speak out and to relentlessly organize for what is right.”
