Jayapal Announces Winners of Congressional Arts Competition

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal announced the winners of Washington’s 7th District Congressional Arts competition today. They are:

1st: Sarah Owen, Shoreline Christian School, “Breathing Sunflowers”

2nd: Nicholas Kemmling, Roosevelt High School, “Smoker”

3rd: Marlowe Pody, Garfield High School, “Fearless Girl”

Owen’s painting will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year; Jayapal will hang other entries in her Congressional offices.

“Thank you! – to all of the students from 8 different schools around the district who participated, to our amazing judges, and to the many supportive parents and teachers,” said Rep. Jayapal. “I was stunned and inspired by the quality and depth in the submissions that we received. We are already looking forward to next year’s competition!”

Eight high schools from around the district participated in this year’s contest, including Shorecrest, Shoreline Christian, Ingraham, Lakeside, Roosevelt, Northwest School, University Prep, and Garfield High School.
