All people in this country — documented and undocumented — have rights.

Know Your Rights

  • You have the right to remain silent.
  • You have the right to an attorney.
  • You have the right to due process and to have your case heard before a judge.

What to do during an ICE run-in

  • Remain calm and do not run away.
  • Do not open the door for ICE or any police officer without a signed warrant.
  • Remain silent until you can speak with a lawyer — you don’t need to share your birthplace, immigration status, or how you entered the US.
  • Do not sign any paperwork you do not understand or agree with. You can speak with a lawyer before signing any documents.

Know Your Rights Cards

These cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, like when ICE agents go to a home.

Below, there are versions of these cards in nineteen different languages. Translated versions are designed to support monolingual immigrants in translating their rights with immigration officers. You can print to use if confronted by an ICE agent.
