Jayapal Reacts to Administration Complying with Court Orders
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal issued this statement in response to the Departments of Homeland Security and State complying with court orders, reversing visa suspensions, and halting the implementation of President Trump’s unlawful executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries:
“While I’m glad to see the Departments of Homeland Security and State comply with the court ruling, they should never have implemented these unconstitutional and inhumane executive orders in the first place. It should not have taken a lawsuit to force the administration to do the right thing. As we witnessed firsthand at Seattle-Tacoma airport, these orders created chaos at our ports and devastated innocent families.
“Judge Robart’s ruling carries the full weight of the law, whether this president likes it or not. President Trump should abandon his attempts to reinstate these unlawful orders. He must allow immigrant families to migrate and live in peace, regardless of where they are from or what religion they practice.”
