Jayapal Statement on Passage of the GOP Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement in response to House passage of the continuing resolution that funds the government through January 19:
“It’s shameful to see House Republicans skip town to enjoy the holidays after voting for the continued suffering of millions of young people and children. They have the majority, their votes overrule ours, and their choice today was cruel and immoral.
“House Republicans spent all their time focused on passing a tax scam that gives cuts to the wealthiest and no time working to pass a budget that addresses the priority programs on which middle class families rely. The GOP has shown they side with the biggest corporations and the wealthiest instead of the 9 million kids who need CHIP authorized, the 1.5 million Dreamers who need a Dream Act now, or the millions of people who will lose health insurance because of Republican-forced destabilization of the health care market.
“We need to fully re-authorize CHIP funding and pass the bipartisan Dream Act – this bill does not do that. Republicans are kicking the can down the road for another month with this continuing resolution without addressing any of the real priorities. I voted no to this irresponsible governing.”
