Jayapal Appointed to Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal was appointed to the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. The committee, part of the House Judiciary Committee, has jurisdiction over the administration of U.S. Courts, federal rules of evidence, civil and appellate procedure, judicial ethics, patent and trademark law, information technology, as well as other appropriate matters and relevant oversight.

“This committee’s jurisdiction is critical to the 7th District.  Innovation and creative pursuits drive economic activity all over the United States – particularly in high-tech research hubs like the Seattle region. From ensuring updated and fair copyright laws to ensuring net neutrality to preventing foreign manipulation of social media, there is no shortage of urgent issues for us to take action on,” said Rep. Jayapal. “I am honored to join this subcommittee and look forward to working with my colleagues to build a fairer, more just system with abundant economic opportunity for all.”

Jayapal was appointed to the critically important House Judiciary Committee upon entering Congress in 2017, and continues to serve on the subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security. Additionally, she serves as Vice Ranking member of the powerful House Budget Committee that is charged with oversight of the federal budget. She was also elected First Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
