Rep. Jayapal Encourages DACA Recipients to Renew Their Status

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is encouraging all recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to renew their status.

In 2017, President Trump terminated the DACA program. However, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a preliminary injunction temporarily halting that termination. The case went to the Supreme Court, which sent it back to the Ninth Circuit – effectively stopping President Trump from eliminating DACA until a decision is reached.

“President Trump created this crisis. He single-handedly made DACA recipients deportable and rejected bipartisan proposals that would have helped these young people,” said Rep. Jayapal. “Thankfully, the Supreme Court’s actions have halted the Trump administration from causing mass chaos – if only temporarily. While Trump continues down the warpath to strip Dreamers of their status, Congress must continue our efforts for a clean Dream Act. We will keep fighting alongside these young people who only know the U.S. as their home. In the meantime, I highly encourage all DACA recipients to apply for renewal of their status. If you are a DACA recipient who is afraid to renew on your own, please reach out to my office – we will do all we can to help you.”

Due to the Trump administration’s heartless stance on immigration, many DACA recipients may be reluctant to renew. Jayapal is encouraging those who are afraid to reach out to her office before renewing their DACA status.

Here’s how DACA recipients can apply to renew their status:
