Jayapal Helps Secure $20 Million Grant for Shoreline South Regional Transit Hub Infrastructure Project
SEATTLE – U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) announced today that she helped secure $20 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to connect communities to the incoming-Shoreline South Regional Transit Hub. The grant, from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, will help reduce emissions and provide greater access to work, education, and services for the surrounding community, while making travel safer for both vehicles and pedestrians.
“This funding for the neighborhoods surrounding the Shoreline South Regional Transit Hub will help ensure this critical project makes our roads safer for pedestrians, bikers, and commuters,” said Jayapal. “I am proud to have fought to secure this $20 million RAISE grant that will both increase regional transportation mobility and support the success of the future Link light rail expansion. This federal investment will go a long way toward making our community more accessible, increasing transit-oriented development, and helping to address the climate crisis. I have supported this project throughout my tenure in Congress and I look forward to seeing it completed.”

This grant will increase safety and mobility for Shoreline residents by allowing the city to complete work on the 145th Street Corridor, the Off-Corridor Bike Network, and the 148th Street Non-Motorized Bridge. These updates will address the high number of collisions on the 145th Street Corridor, direct bicyclists away from the busy street and to a new, safer bike network on slower-paced streets, and provide a way for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles to access Shoreline South/148th Station over I-5.
Ensuring the success of the Shoreline Regional Transit Hub has been one of Congresswoman Jayapal’s long standing priorities, as she helped secure funding for the 148th Street Non-Motorized Bridge in the 2023 federal budget.
Two years ago, Jayapal also helped deliver a historic $1.2 trillion investment in our country’s infrastructure that includes more than $8.5 billion for Washington state. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes critical federal investments in Washington’s roads, bridges, highways, waterways, culverts, public transportation systems, clean energy infrastructure, and broadband while also creating millions of good-paying, union jobs. This legislation was the largest federal investment in public transit in American history and the largest dedicated bridge investment since the creation of the interstate highway.
