Jayapal Applauds Department of Commerce for Awarding a $23.5 Million Grant to Local Washington Organization
The grant would create a workforce training program across multiple job sectors, paving the way for good-paying jobs and economic security
SEATTLE – U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) celebrated the recent announcement that the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) was awarding the Washington Student Achievement Council in Olympia, Washington, a $23.5 million grant to create the Washington Jobs Initiative, a workforce training program that will connect jobseekers with quality, good-paying jobs across multiple sectors, including health care, manufacturing, energy, and construction, among others.
“Workers are the backbone of our economy. Ensuring they are able to find good-paying jobs is essential to our societal well-being and economic recovery,” said Congresswoman Jayapal. “I’m thrilled that the Washington Student Achievement Council was the recipient of such a well-deserved grant that will help connect countless workers in my home state with jobs in critically-needed sectors. I am grateful for Secretary Raimondo’s partnership in this critical endeavor and in our shared commitment to continue uplifting our workers.”
The grant was funded through the American Rescue Plan’s Good Jobs Challenge, which is making historic investments in quality, locally-led workforce programs. The Washington Student Achievement Council was one of 32 grant recipients out of a competitive pool of 509 applicants.
