Congresswoman Jayapal votes NO on Anti-BDS Resolution
Today, I voted “no” on House Resolution 246 because I have unresolved concerns about First Amendment free speech and protest protections.
I am also deeply disappointed that the resolution we should be voting on and that is deeply necessary at this time, did not come to the floor. That resolution, authored by Reps. Lowenthal and Bass, would restate the United States’ strong commitment to a two-state solution. I would proudly support such a resolution.
I believe the United States has a constructive diplomatic role to play in the Middle East. The best way to achieve peace is to continue pressing for a two-state solution – one that recognizes Israel’s right to exist in peace and security, and the Palestinian people’s rights to a homeland where they are in control of their own future.
