Jayapal Statement on SCOTUS Order Blocking Trump Admin’s Efforts to Deport Immigrants Without Due Process

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ranking Member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision blocking the Trump administration from violating due process rights with its reckless implementation of the Alien Enemies Act.

“Once again, the Supreme Court, including Justices appointed by Trump, overwhelmingly ruled that all people, including immigrants, are entitled to due process.

“The Trump administration has been kidnapping and disappearing immigrants, violating their right to due process. By the administration’s own admission, people have been deported by mistake. Their goal appears to be to run roughshod over our Constitution and any fundamental rights. While this is not a final ruling on the merits of the case, it is another critical warning to the administration that it cannot ignore due process. Now, the Trump administration must stop these illegal actions and abide by judicial rulings.”
