JAYAPAL STATEMENT ON TRUMP’S LATEST XENOPHOBIC TRAVEL BAN

[WASHINGTON, DC] — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship and Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, today issued the following statement after the Trump Administration issued the latest in a series of xenophobic travel bans:

“This is yet another xenophobic attempt by this Administration to restrict legal immigration and close America’s doors to visitors and vulnerable people. As Vice Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship, and more importantly, as one of just 14 naturalized citizens in Congress, I will do everything in my power to resist the Muslim Ban and other discriminatory bans.

It is critically important that we will be marking up the NO BAN Act in the House Judiciary Committee to end not just the Muslim Ban, but other xenophobic, anti-immigrant policies pushed by this Administration. By passing the NO BAN Act, the House will send an important message to Muslims and people of color here and abroad: America believes in religious liberty and our doors are open to immigrants and vulnerable refugees regardless of faith.”
