Jayapal Disavows Trump’s Latest Swipe at Immigrants

SEATTLE – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s release of an immigration framework that would irreparably dismantle core components of the U.S. immigration system:

“Donald Trump has once again shown that he is not interested in being a serious or honest negotiator to protect Dreamers. While he sometimes offers niceties about what he will allow, at the same time he puts unacceptably harsh and destructive demands on the table which would absolutely kill any compromise.

“Dreamers are in crisis because of Trump. Now he is gutting family immigration and harshly terminating diversity visas which will cut legal immigration to our country by half. He cannot play villain and savior; we see through his charade.

“The bottom line is, Trump’s policies blatantly target people of color and advance his hate-filled agenda. We cannot let this proposal see the light of day
