Jayapal Responds to Supreme Court Order on President Trump’s Muslim Ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court move allowing President Trump’s Muslim Ban to go into effect:

“The reality is, the discriminatory intent behind the Muslim Ban has been on full display on the president’s personal Twitter feed, where just last week he used his platform to spread vile anti-Muslim propaganda. Today’s Supreme Court order ignores the anti-Muslim animus behind the Muslim ban and represents a setback for Americans of all stripes who oppose this injustice.

“In the courts, the streets and the halls of Congress, the fight is far from over. The Court’s decision underscores the need for all of us to not only continue challenging this unconstitutional ban in the legal system, but to also show up for our Muslim neighbors, co-workers and friends in every venue and community. We must put into action the values that define the America we know: fairness, inclusion, equality and justice.”

Background: Today’s Supreme Court decision allows the revised Muslim ban to be fully enforced while legal challenges move forward in lower courts, including in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes Washington state. The countries impacted are Syria, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Chad, Somalia, North Korea and Venezuela. Six of these countries have Muslim majorities.
