Jayapal Responds to Comey’s Testimony

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement in response to FBI Director James Comey’s appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee:

“Director Comey laid it out, plain and simple – President Trump acts in profoundly disturbing ways and he cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

“Trump’s demands of ‘loyalty’ from the head of an agency that is supposed to be impartial, his obstructionist tactics and his administration’s blatant and suspicious dealings with top Russian officials are of grave concern. Director Comey’s testimony highlights the extremely serious issues we face as a country: the possible obstruction of justice, lies by the president and the influence of the Russian government on our election. We owe it to the American people to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible. We must ensure that the president and his administration do not get in the way of the special counsel’s investigation.

“Comey’s testimony shows, more than ever, that we need an independent commission to do the work to restore our faith in democracy, ensure that we maintain integrity in our election process and prevent this from ever happening again.”
