Jayapal on Trump Leaking Secrets to Russia: “Republicans must stop stonewalling” on independent commission
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal released the following statement in response to reports of President Trump disclosing highly classified information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during their visit to the White House last week:
“President Trump has proven himself to be a threat to our national security,” said Rep. Jayapal. “By reportedly bragging and leaking to the Russians highly confidential information regarding terrorist threats, the president has callously failed to live up to his most essential duty and betrayed our allies and the American people. It’s clear he cannot be trusted with the responsibility of the presidency.”
“I have been calling for an independent commission to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia for months,” Jayapal continued. “I can only hope this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. I call on my Republican colleagues to stop stonewalling our efforts before the nation is put at further risk.”
